    When Local Becomes the Strategy

A different approach to a political campaign in Súdwest-Fryslân

    Another campaign.

    But this one was different.

    Not because of the scale.

    Not because of the budget.

    Because of the constraints.

A local political campaign in Súdwest-Fryslân.

    No established audience.

    A brand-new Facebook page.

And strict regulations limiting political advertising.

    The usual playbook wouldn't work.

    So we didn't follow it.

We didn't go bigger. We went closer.

Instead of trying to look like every other campaign, we chose something unconventional.

    Human-sized cardboard candidates.

    Filming with cardboard candidate

Not as a gimmick, but as a message.

    Local means something.

    It means being present.

It means being visible in the streets, in the villages, among people.

    So we made it literal.

A presenter walking through the community, side by side with the candidates.

    Talking directly to people.

    No distance.

    No stage.

    Not polished.

    Not perfect.

    But real.

When you can't advertise, you adapt

One of the biggest challenges was regulation.

Political ads in Europe are strict.

    Targeting is limited.

    Boosting content becomes complicated.

    So we shifted the strategy.

Instead of paid reach, we focused on format.

    Short videos.

    Reels.

Because when you don't have distribution, you design for discovery.

    Content that travels.

    Content that earns attention.

    Not because it's pushed.

    Because it resonates.

The result wasn't just reach. It was connection.

    In just a few weeks:

    • 16,000+ views on Facebook
    • 86% of the audience were non-followers
    • Strong engagement across multiple videos

    From zero to visibility.

    Not by spending more.

    But by choosing differently.

    The truth about experience

As marketers, we're often asked the same question:

    "Have you done this before?"

    It's a fair question.

    But it misses something important.

You don't get experience before you start.

You get experience because you start.

And sometimes, the solution isn't in past experience.

    It's in understanding the fundamentals.

    • How people pay attention
    • How messages travel
    • How context shapes behavior

    Those don't change.

    Only the execution does.

    Different context. Same principles.

    This wasn't just a campaign.

    It was a reminder.

    That constraints force clarity.

That local can be powerful when it's real.

And that good strategy isn't about copying what worked before.

It's about applying what always works — in a new way.
